Are super magnets food-safe?
We strongly advise against the use in the consumer’s food preparation areas.
In addition, we explicitly point out, that swallowing a magnet can have life-threatening consequences.
Food-grade encompasses miscellaneous requirements for packaging materials in the food industry or printing ink used for consumer products.
There is no official definition for the term “food-safe”.
However, for all materials coming into direct contact with food, the so-called “framework regulation” (EC) No.
1935/2004 applies.
According to this regulation, materials which, under normal and reasonably foreseeable conditions, come into contact with food, must not transfer any or only very small amounts of their components to the food item, so that
- human health is not jeopardized.
- it is not causing an unacceptable change in the composition of the food item.
- neither the taste or smell of the food item is adversely affected.
Independent institutions (Fresenius, TÜV etc.) can issue food-grade certifications.
Since the magnets at supermagnete.it are not intended for direct use with food, we do not consider such certifications necessary or appropriate.
It is also important to note, that this framework regulation does not actually take effect as national law. The respective EU member states have to pass their own individual national legislation based on the framework and which can differ from one member state to the next. It is therefore vital to fully understand all local laws.
